Emerging immunologic biomarkers: setting the (TNM-immune) stage.
The cooperation of tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes and tertiary lymphoid tissue in early-stage colorectal carcinoma further corroborates the strong immune influences on tumor progression and patient outcome. Immune factors in the tumor microenvironment may warrant inclusion in pathology reports and staging systems for prognostication and prediction of therapeutic response.
متن کاملSetting the stage: an anatomist's view of the immune system.
Anatomical strategies that help cells to interact greatly increase the efficiency of the adaptive immune system. In vivo, antigens are presented in a complex environment, wherein their movements and those of antigenpresenting cells, T cells and B cells are subject to anatomical constraints. Specialized subcompartments appear to facilitate cell-to-cell contact and recognition and provide the mos...
متن کاملAn Ontology for TNM Clinical Stage Inference
TNM is a classification system for assessment of progression stage of malignant tumors. The physician, upon patient examination, classifies a tumor using three variables: T, N and M. Definitions of values for T, N and M depend on the tumor topography (or body part), specified as ICD-O codes. These values are then used to infer the Clinical Stage (CS) and reflect the disease progression, which c...
متن کاملStandard setting in medical education: fundamental concepts and emerging challenges
The process of determining the minimum pass level to separate the competent students from those who do not perform well enough is called standard setting. A large number of methods are widely used to set cut-scores for both written and clinical examinations. There are some challenging issues pertaining to any standard setting procedure. Ignoring these concerns would result in a large dispute ...
متن کاملSetting the Stage
Metadata, literally " data about data, " has become a widely used yet still frequently underspecified term that is understood in different ways by the diverse professional communities that design, create, describe, preserve, and use information systems and resources. It is a construct that has been around for as long as humans have been organizing information, albeit transparently in many cases...
